A group of 6 indie game devs have gathered together to form http://indiebuskers.net. There, they will be spending the next 48 hours making a bundle of games based on ideas that the public chose and voted upon. Check it out, and drop a coin in the hat to recieve a bundle when it’s all over.

It’s a pretty cool idea, and these guys are pretty good at what they do. Seeing that musicians can make a bit of change on the subways playing music, why can’t indie devs make a bit of change making games on the subways of the internet?  Check it out. I’ll write a more detailed post about each of the buskers later on.

Baby MooCastles

The last event at a permanent, physical location for Babycastles was an absolute blast. DJ Dog Dick, the super talented Ava Luna Band, and Inspectah Deck of the Wu Tang Clan tore up the place with their music, while games from the @horse_ebooks game jam at Parsons, Pole Riders, Mega GIRP, and Wu Tang J.S. Joust rounded out the mesmerizing Babycastles feel. It truly was a worthy event for the last show at a physical Babycastles location.

I made the signs for this event.

This past Wednesday was the opening party of F%!K THE SCREEN at Future Babycastles curated by Doug Wilson, Bennett Foddy, and Matt Parker. All but one of the games featured were all games requiring physical interaction, with some unique usage of existing game controllers. Here’s what was played:

I love cats...

For the Love of Cats was designed for the Babycastles Castle Labs Game Jam featuring the theme of Love. This game went through many different iterations until we settled on this prototype. Expect this game to evolve into something more in the near future. Windows only for now.

For the 48-hour Love of Cats

The Babycastles Castle Labs Game Jam was pretty fun for us here. A few of us here at Quantum-Box made this hilarious game about rescuing cats in space. I just finished some stability improvements to the game so that it’s sorta playable…

A nice crowd showed up throughout the day

Every year, NYU hosts the No Quarter Exhibition where it commissions several game designers to design a game for the exhibition. This year Terry Cavanagh, Ramiro Corbetta, and Charley Miller, designed new games for No Quarter. Luke O’ Connor also had his game exhibited as well, being a game made for the experimental gameplay project earlier in the year. Additionally, the NYC Winnitron in all its glory was there for all to play and admire.

The I of It is an extremely classy puzzle platformer. You play as ‘I’ on an adventure to find ‘t’. The game isn’t too difficult, but the sound design, narration, and interesting game mechanics make it a really awesome game. It shouldn’t take you too long to finish, and the ending is fitting.

I still suck at Photoshop

It’s been a long… Time…

For the past few months, we sat around thinking about what we want to do, and how we want to do it. Well, we finally figured it out. We just launched this new site just to make it easier for us to keep writing about stuff, and to display the stuff we will do. Now, on to the good stuff…

A collaboration between Arthur Ward Jr , Chris Algoo, Joe Pham, Chris DiMauro, Rebecca Mir, Jason Barnes, and David Or

Title screen. Ahh...

Root was designed for 2011 Global Game Jam which had the theme of Deception. Collect nutrients, water and energy as you guide a new species of plant through the treacherous earth. Mixed-media artwork combines digital techniques with pastels, watercolor and charcoal. Dynamic sound allows the player’s gameplay to contribute to the auditory experience. Avoid predators and obstacles, and reach the surface before you’re doomed to extinction. This game received the “Most Beautiful” award at the NYU Game Center Jam site. The team is working on a new, expanded version of the game. Major work is expected to start in June.
